Over more than 60 years and three generations, an extended family of middle class Italian Jews tried to camouflage their Jewish identity. But at the same time, the individual members of this family, each in their own way, took clear steps to make sure that this same Jewish identity should be preserved from one generation to the next.
“Camouflage” describes this process through changing historical contexts, and tries to analyse the thinking, attitudes and feelings of the people involved.
